Beach Daisy

Living room with gray sofa, wooden coffee table, kitchen area, dining table, hanging pendant lights, ceiling fan, and large window with views of trees.

The Captiva Project originated when the client acquired a parcel of land adjacent to the renowned Rauschenberg Foundation. Initially envisioned as luxury rental units, the project evolved into a heartfelt 8-month endeavor. The development, later named Sea Pines, comprises two distinct properties, Willey Cottage and Beach Daisy. Both charming cottages nestled in a quaint village teeming with eclectic shops, delectable eateries and an island bustling with life. Situated adjacent to the expansive Rauschenberg property, these cottages afford a secluded sanctuary amidst bustling surroundings. Notably, the Rauschenberg Foundation also hosts an esteemed artist residency program, adding to the cultural allure of the locale.

Willey, a charming cottage with a rich heritage, is the original historic cottage on the property. One of it’s owners was the famous local fiber artist, doll maker, rug hooker & knitter Katie Gardenia, original founder of the Bubble Room (a local favorite restaurant famed for its cakes, eternal Christmas theme, and prime rib). The other cottage, Beach Daisy, was built some time in the late 60s, early 70s and is set back from the beach allowing it some privacy and added space for games and young families.

A cozy window seat with pillows, flanked by built-in bookshelves filled with books and board games, with large windows and view of greenery outside.

Beach Daisy underwent a complete renovation tailored to cater to young families. The renovation involved a thorough overhaul, stripping down to the studs and incorporating brand-new elements throughout the space. The redesign included the removal of ceilings to establish an airy, open-plan concept, enhancing the layout to optimize both space and natural light. Additionally, strategic changes were made, such as relocating the laundry room as well as a secondary bathroom and the design of compact closets to amplify efficiency within the home.

Some of my favorite elements in beach daisy are the swinging loungers on the porch (perfect for coffee sipping, reading, or just lounging and listening to the waves), the outdoor showers (key to helping you feel like you’re in a tropical oasis), and the note chandelier so you can see other guest’s experiences and hear their stories. Some notes below…

Covered porch with two wooden swings hanging from the ceiling, each swing has cushions and pillows. There are two ceramic stools in the middle, a textured rug on the wooden floor, large windows showing a view of trees outside, and a wooden table with potted plants and orchids on the right side.

The cottage is absolutely beautiful... It is extremely rare to find a beach rental property with the style, craftsmanship and casual elegance of this cottage — I have never stayed anywhere quite like it.”
